Sean Turner is a geographer from Washington D.C. He visited Croatia in 2013, fell in love with the island of Vis and begun his career in island geography and nissology, focusing on the Croatian archipelago. He has since completed an Honours research on the topic of sustainability patterns on the island of Vis and his Master’s thesis on the topic of Agricultural Suitability and Revitalization on the Island of Vis. In 2016, he was awarded the Fulbright Scholarship to Croatia to do the island-based (nissology) research at the Zagreb Institute of Economics. He graduated from the University of Maryland with a B.S. in Geographical Sciences/Government and Politics and an M.S. in Applied Geographical Sciences. He plans to pursue his PhD studies with a focus on island sustainability classification and on the effect of disproportionate biodiversity on social and economic structures in island communities.
