  CORONA, EARTHQUAKE AND ISLANDS

 

The world is facing a new challenge. In front of a small virus, everything is on its knees. And when the earthquake is added, which is 21/03/2020. happened to Zagreb, people are in great difficulty and dilemmas.

Even before the earthquake in Zagreb, we saw warnings on the websites of the island of Vis. Namely, people who have cottages on the island of Vis flocked to the island. Not thinking about the inhabitants of the island, but primarily about themselves. Fortunately, a number of important regulations have been put in place by the excellent civil service running the virus coronary protection program. Prohibition of travel to the islands by anyone who does not have an island map. Proof that they live on the island all the time. It is also forbidden to land all vessels on the islands. Secondly, the ban on leaving the place of permanent residence comes into force today.

The islands are very fragile in relation to the mainland. Although at first glance they may seem self-sufficient, they are not. Especially in situations like this. They do not have the necessary infrastructure either in the medical staff or in the equipment to assist the residents. And especially not to strangers.

 ISLAND OF VIS

January 12, 2020
Undoubtedly, this time, this year, January 2020, is an ideal time to stay on the island. Not for a day or two, but for at least 20 days. There is everything on Vis and there are no people. Walking in all directions, marked by hiking trails and unmarked (still a small mine danger?), Fry some fish, a good supply of meat, especially lamb, in more butcher's houses. Cozy atmosphere in the small restaurant "Gušti poja" in Podspilje and always open "Pojoda" with the best offer of normal appetizers and dishes, without culinary delights where you are looking for a "dish" on your plate.
I remember one lunch at a famous restaurant near Motovun. Six sequences where the waiter never stopped talking about eating !? with 6 different wines we also had to hear stories about. Tired of such an “offer” and the waiters ’barberries, after all I ordered spaghetti milanese and red wine mixed with water and went happy and satisfied from the restaurant.
